As a user of screenreader we often find it extremely difficult to access content in a PDF document. Often it is not very accessible and it does make it difficult to copy or paste content from a PDF into another application. I recently came across this trick which converts PDF into a word document.
This trick works with the following versions of Microsoft Word:
- Word for Office 365
- Word 2019
- Word 2016
- Word 2013
How to do it?
To edit a PDF, simply open it in Word. This works best with PDFs that are mostly text.
- Go to File > Open.
- Find the PDF, and open it (you might have to select Browse and find the PDF in a folder).
- Word tells you that it’s going to make a copy of the PDF and convert its contents into a format that Word can display. The original PDF won’t be changed at all. Select Ok.
Note: The converted document might not have a perfect page-to-page correspondence with the original location.
